Geraniums commemorate War of 1812

Plant Red Geraniums to commemorate the War of 1812! Great idea for 2012!

I am the Heritage & Culture Coordinator for Norfolk County.  I am also on the Western Corridor Alliance War of 1812 Bicentennial Committee.

For the last year or so we have been meeting to discuss how to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812.  One idea suggested by the United Empire Loyalists may be of interest to you.  They are encouraging horticultural societies to plant Red Geraniums to honour those loyalists who died in the war.

I have attached an article about this project for your information.  In Norfolk we have been contacting the local horticultural groups and Donna Hussey from the Delhi Horticultural Association suggested I contact you.  If you could spread the word about this project, I would really appreciate it.  The red geraniums do not have to be planted exclusively but a few in a garden would be wonderful.  In Norfolk we plan to have small plaques placed near the geraniums to explain their significance.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thank you,
